Nintendo Trademarked “Wii” As Far Back As 1997 In Taiwan

Today we have an interesting discovery to report on – two trademarks Nintendo registered in Taiwan in the 1990s.

The first trademark, registered in 1997, was “Wii”. Yes, the Wii, Nintendo’s bestselling console released in 2006. The trademark registered at that time had a different logo, but it seems no one knew about it until now. Perhaps someone at Nintendo’s Taiwanese office accurately predicted the future. Here’s a look:

The second trademark registered in 1993 was “Nintembo”. Again, it seems strange for Nintendo to apply a trademark for this, unless they were trying to stop counterfeiters or pirates.
