Earlier this year, Nintendo released the all-new Switch Lite console – which offers handheld-only play at a cheaper price. While not everyone is in love with its simpler form factor, it looks like the system may have already found a comfortable niche.
During a interview with Fortune, Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser revealed an interesting detail about the Switch Lite. In particular, he mentioned that the portable-only system is winning the hearts of women – many of whom prefer to purchase it over the regular Switch model. Doug also felt that the system will be a valuable asset in expanding Nintendo’s current audience – which makes sense in lieu of the upcoming holiday season.
Check out his full remarks below:
“We’re seeing a higher percent of female consumers buying Nintendo Switch Lite than buy the flagship. We see Lite as a great opportunity for us to expand with that audience.”
“Our intent with Nintendo Switch Lite is absolutely to reach a more expanded audience and to do so by offering a more dedicated gaming device for those that were really looking for that experience.”
It will definitely be interesting to see if any official stats are available for this in the future. Nevertheless, more customers for Nintendo can only be a good thing for fans of the system – whether or not they play docked or handheld.
