NPD: US Games Spending Reaches New Record In Q1 2020

NPD Group, the company that tracks video game sales data in the United States, has shared their latest figures for Q1 2020.

According to their results, videogame spending in the United States reached a new record for the first quarter at $10.86 billion, an increase of about 9% compared to the same period last year. NPD believes that the stay-home-orders played a major role in this increase.

Moving on, US gamers spent $9.58 billion on gaming content alone in Q1 2020, up by 11% year-over-year. Animal Crossing: New Horizons was one of the biggest games of the season, alongside Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare and GTA V.

As for hardware, sales for the PS4 and Xbox One dipped slightly, but this drop was offset by an increase in Switch sales. Overall, gaming hardware sales in the US for this quarter hit around $773 million, a 2% rise from last year.
