The Pokemon Company has announced a new special collaboration event for Pokemon GO, this time with the highly popular and highly influential manga One Piece.
During this collaboration, a special “Straw Hat Pikachu” sporting One Piece hero Luffy’s signature headwear will appear in Pokemon GO worldwide from July 22nd to July 24th. In addition, trainers will also be able to obtain a straw hat accessory for their in-game avatars.
As a further tie-in to the event, a One Piece statue will be put up in Kumamoto, Japan. This statue will serve as a special Pokestop for Pokemon GO, and will feature art drawn by One Piece mangaka Eiichiro Oda. This tie-in is meant to support the rebuilding of Kumamoto City following an earthquake that happened earlier this year, as well as to celebrate the third anniversary of Pokemon GO and 22nd anniversary of One Piece.
