Over 15 SEGA Ages Titles On The Way To Nintendo Switch, Including Unreleased Titles

Nintendo Dream has published an interview with SEGA Ages director Rieko Kodama and supervisor Yousuke Okunari.

During the interview, the duo confirmed SEGA is planning to release 1 to 2 SEGA Ages titles on Nintendo Switch every month. They also revealed they have over 15 titles in the works, some of which include games that were never released in the past.

Check out Kodama and Okunari’s full interview below:

With the announcement of the first series of games in the new SEGA Ages compilation for Nintendo Switch, SEGA also showed its new logo. This new SEGA Ages design mixes the classic blue color of its main logo with a retro feel. We spoke with the producer and principal director, Rieko Kodama, to know the circumstances of the new design of this modern compilation of classic games.

Rieko Kodama stands out as one of the first women in the development of games in Japan. He has worked in graphic design for countless SEGA games, including the “Fantasy Star” series; She was also the director of “Fantasy Star IV”. Currently, Kodama is the producer of the “Series 7  th Dragon”.

The pixels and blue color par excellence combine perfectly with these new updated versions.

According to Kodama, two different artists started working on these concepts. After they finished, there were approximately 90 proposals in total! Then, SEGA made several faculty members from various departments vote for their favorites. Comments were included not only from their Japanese staff, but also from European and American staff. Once the vote was approved, the design you see came out victorious. Kodama shared insider information with us about why this style was chosen: “Many of our employees expressed the opinion that pixel art reminded them of when the games originally went on sale, so it fit in perfectly with this collection of re-releases. . We also saw several color variations: there was a rainbow version, a metal version and many others. Despite this,

The new logo even appears on the title screens of the games.

When you start a SEGA Ages game, the new logo also appears along with the title of the game. We believe that everyone will enjoy watching it along with their favorite games.

On SEGA’s monthly releases and future plans for the collection.

We speak with Yousuke Okunari, supervisor of SEGA Ages, to obtain first-hand information about upcoming launches. Okunari has worked on the SEGA Ages series for more than ten years and even worked on the SEGA 3D Classics collection for Nintendo 3DS.

Serving as supervisor of SEGA Ages, Yousuke Okunari oversees countless aspects of the project, including new quality of life features. He is a big fan of classic SEGA video games.

The name “SEGA Ages” could not be more perfect!

As Okunari has worked on the series for so many years, we thought he would be the right person to ask how they came up with the name. “It’s hard to say who exactly gave the name, since it’s been a long time, but we chose it because the word ‘Ages’ perfectly evokes the image of telling the story of SEGA,” Okunari replied. The name could also be interpreted as “The generations of SEGA”, and the word “Ages” is even a palindrome of “SEGA”. Amazing!

Add something fresh and exciting without tarnishing the integrity of the original games.

SEGA hopes that its fans will notice the small details that have been integrated into each title. Okunari explained why they decided to add some additional tweaks: “We thought that if we took the route easily and simply launched the original games, although people could play their favorite classics on modern consoles, they were not going to get too excited. So, with diehard fans in mind, we wanted to include new elements that everyone would approve. These new aspects are not only aimed at new generations of players, these are things that we think the original fans would expect to see if the game was released today. We are confident that the features we have implemented maintain the integrity of the original games intact while offering a smoother and more pleasant experience. “The fans will be happy to hear that none of the new additions disrupt the games in any way, and that each game feels exactly the same as it was at the time. SEGA has found an excellent balance, as has been done with other collections. For example, the 3D Classics series adds an easier difficulty mode to some titles that allows everyone to enjoy the games. We look forward to seeing what kind of features will be included in future installments of this series. The 3D Classics series adds an easier difficulty mode to some titles that allows everyone to enjoy the games. We look forward to seeing what kind of features will be included in future installments of this series. The 3D Classics series adds an easier difficulty mode to some titles that allows everyone to enjoy the games. We look forward to seeing what kind of features will be included in future installments of this series.

Enjoy these games in a way that you can not find anywhere else, thanks to Nintendo Switch.

We wanted to know if SEGA would use any of the unique features of Nintendo Switch. Okunari explained: “We are well above the curve in this case, since the same team that made SEGA 3D Classics Collection is working on SEGA Ages for Switch. Switch can be portable, so you are already thinking of the best ways to take advantage of the hardware. “For example, only Nintendo Switch offers players the option to play the title” Gain Ground “in portrait mode. We also asked Okunari about the possible inclusion of online modes, and he answered very affirmatively: “Although we do not include online options in our SEGA 3D Classics Collection launches, we will surely put them in SEGA Ages!” The first two games will be compatible with the online game.

The fact that these games were released years ago does not mean that they can not be enjoyed today.

Okunari has a special message for any young player who is not interested in older titles: “If you compare the games your parents played when they were your age with the modern ones, they may seem simplistic because that was the beginning of an era for the games of desktop consoles. However, fans of that time were as excited about games as you are, if not more. While they may seem primitive to the naked eye, these are concise video games with meticulously crafted systems and updated features. I think the experiences these games have transcend generational limits, and I would be honored to hear that today’s players are enjoying them. ” The players who were crazy about these games in the past are now working on this project,

There are games included in the list of 15 titles that have never been relaunched before!

We also ask what plans they have for the future. We asked Kodama what they are going to do after August. “We are planning to launch one or two titles monthly. Initially, we revealed five titles with the announcement of SEGA Ages for Nintendo Switch, but in reality we have more than 15 on the way, “Kodama responded. This series looks pretty good! However, there was one thing in our minds: would there be a classic game in this collection that we have not seen since its original release? “You can count on that. We have ‘Thunder Force IV’ from Technosoft and other games planned. You will have to wait for us to announce them! “Once announced, you can read all about it here!
