Payday 2 Attempts To Get Voice Chat On The Nintendo Switch

As a co-op heist game, Payday 2 would really appreciate the use of voice chat to coordinate the various operations. However, it would seem that voice chat will not make it onto the Switch version of the game when it releases next week on 27 February 2018.

Speaking to Kotaku, publisher Starbreeze said that they have already applied to be on Nintendo’s VOIP app and will update it for as soon as approval was given.

“We are waiting to be able to participate in Nintendo’s VOIP app solution,” said a spokesperson for Starbreeze Studios, the game’s publisher, in an email to Kotaku. “As soon as we are given the go-ahead, this is definitely on our list to look into to update.”

When asked by Nintendo if any games other than Splatoon 2 will be granted use of Nintendo’s VOIP, Nintendo said:

“Voice chat is only enabled in games that have been specifically designed to use the feature in conjunction with the Nintendo Switch smart device application.”

So it would seem that as long as Starbeeze plays nice with Nintendo’s mobile app, they should be able to utilise Nintendo’s voice chat system, paving way for voice chat for Payday 2 on the Nintendo Switch. In the meantime, Starbreeze recommends gamers to use other solutions to coordinate the game process.
