Pets.com Founder Revealed As Winning Bidder Of Rare Nintendo PlayStation, Plans To Open Gaming Museum

Earlier this week, the rare Nintendo PlayStation prototype had successfully auctioned for around $360,000 online. At the time, we didn’t know who obtained the console – but now a new reported has revealed their identity!

The new owner of the Nintendo PlayStation is none other than Greg McLemore – the founder of Pets.com, a website from the late 90s. McLemore himself isn’t a stranger to the world of gaming, as he has also collected around 800 coin-operated arcade machines and other antiques (e.g. consoles, magazines).

The best part is that McLemore doesn’t intend to keep his newest addition away from public eyes either. During an interview with Forbes, McLemore stated that he wished to take his entire collection plus the Nintendo PlayStation to establish a permanent gaming museum:

“I’m looking to not have this machine just buried in a closet somewhere.”

“I’m interested in sharing my passion for gaming…One of my areas of focus is the evolution of gaming, including how earlier arcade games inspired video games and how early video games influenced later innovation. I believe the Nintendo PlayStation fits in well with this focus.”

For now, it’s probably safe to say that this Nintendo PlayStation prototype is in good hands. We’ll report back if we hear more about the rare antique and McLemore’s gaming museum plans in the future!
