To commemorate the end of the Heisei era and beginning of the Reiwa era in Japan, Asahi TV kicked off a poll to find out the top entertainment figures in Japan.

Three major video game/anime characters entered the list of top entertainment icons in the Heisei era poll – Doraemon at No. 9, Pikachu at No. 16, and Detective Conan at No. 18. The rest of the list is populated by major J-Pop bands and idols such as SMAP and Hikaru Utada.
