Pirates Claim They Have Cracked Open The Nintendo Switch

Here’s some unsettling news on the homebrew scene to start the day.

Today a team of hackers known as Team Xecuter have come forward saying they are releasing a hack on Nintendo Switch in Spring 2018. Team Xecuter claims this hack will work on all firmware versions of the Switch.

Why is this a worrying development? Unlike other hackers in the homebrew scene, Team Xecuter has been historically known for opening up systems to piracy. As such some hackers have already declared they will not be using Team Xecuter’s solution. After all, there has always been a strong divide between the homebrew and piracy communities.

If the Nintendo Switch is cracked open to pirates, video game developers and publishers would be greatly affected as they would see their earnings drop from lost customers. This would in turn lead to a decrease in support on the Switch from third parties and indies, so this is certainly not good news for everyone.

Check out Team Xecuter’s proof of concept video and their original statement below.

This solution will work on ANY Nintendo Switch console regardless of the currently installed firmware, and will be completely future proof. This is *the* solution for opening up CFW (Custom FirmWare) on the Nintendo Switch. We want to move the community forward and provide a persistent, stable and fast method of running your own code and custom firmware patches on Nintendo’s latest flagship product. And we think we’ve succeeded!
