PlayStation’s Gravity Rush 2 Pays Tribute To Iwata’s “Directly To You”

If there are any influential and meme-worthy game gesture, it may possibly be late Nintendo CEO’s “Directly To You” gesture. The gesture first seen on Nintendo Directs later became the iconic gesture now seen on every Nintendo game presentation.

Still, the gesture is not confined to Nintendo’s presentations and has gone on to influence PlayStation’s exclusive Gravity Rush 2. In an interview with Siliconera, Gravity Rush 2’s concept artist, Takeshi Oga, talked about Iwata’s “Direct” hand gesture inspiring the design of one of the navigation flowers.

“When asked to make something that shows the path, a flower is fine too, and thinking of that is what a concept artist does,” said Oga.

For Gravity Rush 2, Oga was told “make a new flower design for the sequel,” but to Oga he took it as “I was told to do that so now I don’t want to draw a flower” and he decided to draw hands this time.

Incidentally, the hands that Oga designed was inspired from the famous “directly to you” pose from the late Nintendo President Satoru Iwata.
