Pokemon Sword/Shield Art Director Celebrates Both Games’ First Anniversary With Special Art

One year ago, on 15 November 2019Pokemon Sword/Shield officially made its debut on the Nintendo Switch!

To commemorate the occasion, the games’ art director James Turner shared a fancy new piece of artwork depicting Grookey, Scorbunny, Sobble, Kubfu, and Calyrex celebrating around a golden “1”. You can check it out in full below:

While Pokemon Sword/Shield initially received a lot of flak for their lack of a national Pokedex, there’s no doubt the games have already made their mark on the world – with both games combined already having sold over 1.9 million copies worldwide to date. Both titles are also notable for being the first Pokemon games to employ an expansion pass to add new content, instead of releasing all-new revisions (e.g. Pokemon Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon).

Only time will tell what Game Freak and The Pokemon Company are planning for the next entry in the Pokemon series. Until then, stay tuned!
