Review: Battle Buds In-Ear Gaming Headset

Review: Battle Buds In-Ear Gaming Headset

With a portable console like the Nintendo Switch, having a good headset that provide clear, quality sound are a must.

The Battle Buds are an in-ear gaming headset from Turtle Beach, a company well know for their over ear headphones. The Battle Buds are designed for use on all platforms such as Playstation and Xbox but they are also specifically optimised for the Nintendo Switch. More on that later.

Turtle Beach Battle Buds Review

So what makes the Battle Buds so great for the Nintendo Switch I hear you ask? Firstly, the sound quality is pretty great. Music is crystal clear so if you’re playing the new Yoshi’s Crafted World, then the soundtrack will sound super crisp. Voice acting and animation sounds also sound super crisp and clear so there’s no issue with balance in sound. And while the maximum volume isn’t particularly high (there’s no chance of accidentally setting it so loud, your ears end up in pain), these in-ear headphones do block out a lot of surrounding sound.

When I received these headphones to review, I was a little skeptical due to them being in-ear headphones. I’ve never had much luck with in-ears. Thankfully, the Battle Buds come with ear buds in three different sizes, allowing you to choose the most comfortable fit and ensure they fit nice and snugly.

Now, about that special optimisation mentioned earlier? If you love playing games online with your friends and use the Nintendo Chat feature, then the Battle Buds are going to be perfect for you. Why? Because they fully support Nintendo Switch Chat with its removable microphone. Simply attach the microphone to the lead earbud, adjust the microphone to a suitable position and you’re good to go! The microphone is of fantastic quality, picking up your voice loud and clear for your teammates. And it’s so small that you barely notice that it’s there.

And of course, let’s not forget the design. The Battle Buds come in two different colours – black or white/blue. For the purpose of this review,  we received the white and blue headphones which go really well with my red and blue Switch joy cons. It would be pretty cool if Turtle Beach released more colours to go with all the different joy con colours.

If you’re looking for a set of headphones for your Nintendo Switch then the Battle Buds from Turtle Beach are a good shout. Not only are they comfortable and look goof but the sound quality is pretty great. And for £24.99 per pair, you really can’t go wrong.

The Battle Buds can be purchased directly from the Turtle Beach website.

NintendoSoup were gifted a set of headphones for the purpose of this review.
