Prosecutors File Charges Against Counterfeit amiibo Seller Who Was Warned 4 Times

Prosecutors have filed charges against a 34 year old salaryman from Aichi prefecture, Japan for violating the Unfair Competition Prevention Act on January 23, 2020.

In 2019, the salaryman sold 22 counterfeit amiibo cards he purchased overseas to 36 people on online auction sites, making a total of 90,000 yen (USD821). After Nintendo spotted the counterfeit amiibo card listings online, they warned him not once, but four times, to stop what he was doing.

As the man didn’t listen, prosecutors have now filed charges against the salaryman, who told the police “life is hard, so I purchased the counterfeit amiibo cards and resold them for a small profit”.
