Random: Target Temporarily Suspends Pokemon TCG Sales In US Stores

Retailer Target has begun suspending the sales of select types of trading cards in the US, including the popular Pokemon TCG.

Starting from May 14th, visitors to Target in the US will no longer be able to purchase Pokemon TCG products at physical Target stores. This notice comes via signage put up in the stores, as well as an official statement to website Bleeding Cool, stating its a temporary move for “the safety of guests and staff”.

“The safety of our guests and our team is our top priority. Out of an abundance of caution, we’ve decided to temporarily suspend the sale of MLB, NFL, NBA and Pokémon trading cards within our stores, effective May 14. Guests can continue to shop these cards online at Target.com.”

Although not explicitly stated, it is believed this move may have something to do with the absurdly high demand for collectible trading cards, which can sometimes lead customers to behave in drastic ways. One example provided was a recent incident at a Wisconsin Target, where a dispute over sports cards led to one man pulling a gun on a group of people.

In light of these incidents, it is perhaps unsurprising that physical retailers are starting to take proactive measures to mitigate issues caused by demand for trading cards. Bu what do you think? Let us know in the comments below.
