Rumor: More Details About New Pokemon Sword/Shield And Pokemon HOME Banwave Discovered

Last week, The Pokemon Company announced they were rolling out several new measures to crack down on Pokemon Sword/Shield and Pokemon HOME players who using illegally modified data in both titles.

Although the Pokemon Company’s initial statement was fairly vague about what these measures would entail, multiple reports from various sources have since surfaced detailing the exact requirements in order to receive a ban or suspension.

According to these reports, the following types of players are most likely to be affected:

  • Youtubers and Streamers known to have participated in distributing hacked Pokemon will receive a permanent ban.
  • Pokemon with a nickname or Original Trainer name that ends in “.com” cannot be traded or used in battle.
    • Some claim that players who own these Pokemon will also be temporarily banned from online services, but this has not been verified.
  • Players who own illegal Shiny Pokemon which cannot be obtained through legitimate means may be banned.

Due to the amount of conflicting information, many have recommended that players release any Pokemon they own that has a nickname or Original Trainer name that ends in “.com” just to be safe. We will be sure to report back if more details from official sources arise to clarify the requirements.
