Rumor: Next-Gen Switch Successor Could Appear Late 2024 According To Analyst Prediction

Five years into the Switch’s life, the hybrid console continues to see widespread success alongside its Lite and OLED models. However, amidst rumors about the “Switch Pro” and the release of the next generation of Playstation and Xbox consoles, many are beginning to wonder about when Nintendo will eventually unveil the Switch’s own successor, as has come to be expected from decades of similar console cycles.

Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, Ampere Analysis’ Piers Harding-Rolls said that they forecast Nintendo’s next-gen console to come in “late 2024” after Switch sales begin to decline starting in 2022. Nevertheless, Harding-Rolls expects that the Switch will still remain one of the year’s best-selling consoles for 2022, although its unlikely that rumors of the “Pro” model will come to pass.

I’m currently expecting the console market year-on-year performance to be quite flat in 2022 as Switch sales decline and we come off what has been an amazing couple of years for console gaming. Even so, Nintendo Switch family of devices will once again be the best-selling consoles in 2022 at around 21 million sold to consumers, aided by the release of Switch OLED. I’m not expecting a Switch Pro in 2022. We have a next-gen Nintendo console in our forecasts for late 2024, so I’m not convinced a ‘Pro’ model is going to appear at all.
