Rumor: Nintendo Reportedly Planning To Increase Switch Production To 30 Million This Fiscal Year

Japanese financial newspaper Nikkei has published a report detailing Nintendo’s upcoming plans for the Switch in 2021.

According to their report, Nintendo is apparently planning to ramp up Switch production to 30 million units for the fiscal year ending in March 2022. This information comes via people with “direct knowledge of the matter”, who claim that Nintendo has approached “multiple parts suppliers about accelerating production”. It is believed that this move is meant to “capitalize on continuing stay-at-home demand” for the console.

In addition, Nikkei also reported claims that a higher-end model is also in the works alongside the increase in production, presumably the rumored “pro” model that has been discussed in the past.

“Several officials admitted to us that they are considering expanding production. The company is also expected to add a higher-end model with higher image quality, and this will be the first additional model of the Switch since the Nintendo Switch Lite, which was released in September 2019 and made it more portable.”

That said, when reached for comment, a Nintendo spokesperson only had this to say about the report:

“There is nothing we can tell you about production numbers and higher-end models.”
