Rumor: Tencent Reportedly Giving Up On Supporting Arena Of Valor In The West

After nearly 2 years on Nintendo Switch, it looks like Arena of Valor may soon see its demise outside of Asian countries.

According to several of Reuters’ sources, Chinese games giant Tencent has seemingly abandoned plans to grow the MOBA game further in the West. The corporate giant has even apparently disbanded its marketing team in US and Europe already, as part of this pull-out strategy.

While the game’s original Chinese release (Honor of Kings) rakes in around $3 million daily, it took Arena of Valor a full first year to earn the same amount.

Currently, estimates put the game’s player-base at 150,000 in the US and 100,000 in Europe across mobile and Switch. If Reuter’s sources are genuine, these figures were apparently low enough for Tencent to simply throw in the towel and give up on further support for the game.

One of Reuter’s sources even said that Tencent “really are just letting [Arena of Valor] live or die on its own course.”

As with all unconfirmed information, however, we urge all NintendoSoup readers to treat this with a grain of skepticism. We will report back if Tencent makes any official announcements about the game in the future.
