Scalpers Are Scalping The Wii U For 800 Dollars In 2019

Wii U, the predecessor to Nintendo Switch, was seen as one of the biggest failures in Nintendo history, only doing better than the Virtual Boy.

Although it’s been two years since the Wii U was quietly discontinued, prices for a brand new Wii U console have soared on places such as Amazon and eBay. Let’s take a look at some of the prices.

On Amazon, prices for a brand new Wii U start at USD650. The 8GB Basic White set starts at around USD700, while the not very popular Super Mario Maker set, which comes with a copy of the game and amiibo, goes for USD650.

On the higher end of the spectrum are the New Super Mario Bros. U and Super Mario 3D World 32GB Premium Black sets, which run for USD850 to USD880. During their heyday, Wii U consoles went for USD299.99 (8GB basic) and up to USD349.99 (32GB premium), so prices have increased by at least 2 times in the US.

Given that there were only about 15 million Wii U consoles manufactured, prices of brand new sets are bound to increase in the years to come, as the Wii U enters “ultra rare” and “legendary” status. So if you still have a Wii U, take good care of it as it may be worth thousands of dollars in the future.
