Sonic The Hedgehog Movie Delayed In China Due To Coronavirus Outbreak

While Sonic has been having a box office blast across the world, it looks like he’ll unfortunately meet a huge roadblock in the Chinese mainland.

Paramount has released an official statement confirming that the Sonic the Hedgehog film will see a delay in China – owing to concerns over the growing Coronavirus outbreak there. While the studio could not provide an alternative release date at the time, it gave its well-wishes to the many folks who were working hard to combat the disease:

“Sonic will only be slowing down his pace temporarily, and we look forward to bringing him zooming onto the big screen in China once it is appropriate to do so. As the whole country and world unite together to fight the outbreak of coronavirus, we would like to express our gratitude and respect to all the medical staff, the rescue personnel, and people in service who provide us with much-needed assistance and support during this time.”

The situation will certainly put a damper on the Sonic movie’s overall revenue – but at least Paramount seems to have its heart in the right place. We’ll report back if we get an update on this situation in the future.
