Sony Will Not Be Attending E3 2020, Will Be Present At “Hundreds Of Consumer Events” Instead

Last year, Sony shocked the gaming world by announcing that they would not be participating in E3 2019, arguably one of the biggest gaming events in the world.

Today, the company has confirmed that they will once again pass on attending E3 in 2020. Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, a Sony representative explained that “the vision” of E3 2020 was not a good fit for Sony’s plans in 2020, and that they would instead be attending other consumer events around the world.

“After thorough evaluation Sony Interactive Entertainment has decided not to participate in E3 2020,We have great respect for the ESA as an organization, but we do not feel the vision of E3 2020 is the right venue for what we are focused on this year.”

We will build upon our global events strategy in 2020 by participating in hundreds of consumer events across the globe. Our focus is on making sure fans feel part of the PlayStation family and have access to play their favorite content. We have a fantastic line up of titles coming to PlayStation 4, and with the upcoming launch of PlayStation 5, we are truly looking forward to a year of celebration with our fans.”

With Sony pulling out of E3 a second year in a row, this could be a sign that they are moving towards adopting Nintendo’s strategy of spreading their announcements out across the year as opposed to one giant presentation at E3.

At the time of this writing, Nintendo has yet to confirm what their plans are for E3 2020, though we can probably assume it will consist of the usual E3 Direct and booth.

We will be sure to bring updates on Nintendo’s E3 plans, along with any other related game publishers, as they come.
