Earlier this year, we reported that several online retailers had published listings for Final Fantasy VIII Remastered, suggesting that a physical release for the game on Switch was in the works.

However, it seems that these retailers may have jumped the gun or received some faulty information. On the official Japanese website for the game, Square Enix has stated that Final Fantasy VIII Remastered will only release as a digital download for all platforms.

Unless there is some kind of miscommunication on their part, we are more inclined to take Square Enix’s word as the final say on the matter. Should there be further official updates from them about a physical release for Final Fantasy VIII Remastered, we will be sure to report on it as it comes.
