Super Mario Odyssey Ignores The Law Of Physics For Mario

Here’s an interesting tidbit that you may not have realized during your adventure in Super Mario Odyssey.

Aaron San Filippo, one of the developers behind Evergarden, said Mario’s shadow is always directly under him, whether or not sunlight is present and the direction of sunlight if it’s present. This obviously ignores the laws of physics, so why did Nintendo do it?

The reason is simple – by placing Mario’s shadow directly under him, it becomes easier for players to figure out how high Mario is jumping in the 3D world. This is a good lesson aspiring game developers can take away from Super Mario Odyssey.
