Switch Online Confirmed As Successor Of Virtual Console

While you might be alright with forking out another $5.99 or so for Nintendo’s retro game on the Switch, Nintendo is reluctant to sell it to you. Instead, Nintendo is pointing you towards a Switch Online subscription.

Speaking to IGN, Nintendo of America President, Reggie Fils-Aime, said that the Switch Online is virtual console’s successor and players will be getting a slate of retro games that have been enhanced with online capability.

“The Virtual Console successor is Nintendo Switch Online, right? With the mentality that says we’re going to be offering a slate of games, and it’s a slate that’s going to increase over time,” Fils-Aime said. “For many of these games, there’s going to be additional online capability provided in those games. That’s the vision we have for how to best bring our legacy content to Nintendo Switch.”
