With the next generation of Pokemon games rapidly approaching, the Pokemon anime will soon be wrapping up its season based on Pokemon Sun & Moon.

In fact, in the very next episode airing on September 15 in Japan, Ash Ketchum will be facing off against Gladion in the final match to decide the Champion of the Alola Region. By now, Ash has become infamous for losing every single league championship battle he’s had in every major region he’s been to. Particularly, his loss to Alain during the XY season is still a big sore spot for fans of the show.

However, what makes this season different is that its the last one before rumored “reboot anime” that will “take place across all regions“. Some have speculated that this could mean Ash will win the league this time, as a perfect send-off to his character before a new protagonist takes over.
