Trials of Mana Producers Talk About How Boss Fights Have Been Revamped

Trials of Mana is famous for its many unique bosses. In the latest issue of Famitsu magazine, Square Enix producers Masaru Oyamada, Shinichi Tatsuke, and co-producer Naofumi Takuma talked about working on Trials of Mana, and how they’ve given these boss fights a fresh, modern twist.

Famitsu: Seiken Densetsu 3 has many bosses. Was it difficult to bring out the characteristics of each boss?

Shinichi Tatsuke, Producer: “The on-site planners thought about the gimmicks for the bosses, and Takuma (Co-producer Naofumi Takuma) took comprehensive direction for it. Thanks to the hard work of the planners the game has a new kind of appeal with the many boss patterns.

Masaru Oyamada, Producer: “Even the bosses that stayed in fixed positions in the original game are moving about in the battle areas for the full remake version. It was a lot of work making sure we didn’t ruin their image. The form of the Benevodons follow the original version, but their characteristics have been further improved through action, so please check it out.”

Trials of Mana will release for the Nintendo Switch on April 24, 2020.
