Two weeks ago, the Singaporean Police Force warned folks about online scams involving the sale of Nintendo Switch consoles. Well, it looks like those alarm bells are now ringing true – with two suspects now facing the court for such crimes.

According to Channel News Asia, two Singaporean youths (aged 19 and 20) have been arrested for scamming others with a false Nintendo Switch pre-order listing on Carousell. The two promised customers a newer Switch model with extended battery life at SGD$649 each, but requested a $50 deposit by internet transfer first. Once victims sent over the deposit, however – the two suspects would cut off all communications.

Further investigations have revealed that the two could have already committed up to 80 instances of e-commerce scams involving SGD$30,000. Presently, the older suspect may face up to 10 years in prison plus a fine if found guilty.

Investigations against the other suspect are ongoing.

As usual, the NintendoSoup staff urges everyone to exercise caution when purchasing games or consoles online. Where possible, opt to hand over the full amount of the purchase ONLY when meeting up with the seller in-person – or make your online purchases from authorized retailers if you feel unsure.
