WayForward Had The Idea For Shantae And The Seven Sirens Long Ago, Teases More Reveals For 30th Anniversary

Curious about the development of Shantae and the Seven Sirens, and where its developer WayForward is headed this year? You can now hear it straight from the mouth of Shantae’s creator himself: Mr Matt Bozon!

In a recent interview with Goombastomp.com, the WayForward founder revealed that the upcoming Shantae sequel had actually existed as an unused concept for a very long time – ever since the Nintendo DSi was still a modern handheld! In fact, he keeps such unused ideas stashed for future titles, until the time is right:

“I’ve wanted to do a Shantae sunken city game for a while, probably since we finished the Nintendo DSi game [Shantae: Risky’s Revenge]. There are many Shantae ideas hidden deep inside sketchbooks waiting for the right time to resurface, and it felt like the right time to dig into that story.”

For now, many are expecting Shantae and the Seven Sirens to be WayForward’s big game to mark the company’s 30th anniversary this year. However, Matt teased that there was more to look forward to from the company soon!

“2019 was insane with original titles that are still releasing from WayForward. We had River City Girls, Mighty Switch Force! Collection, Vitamin Connection, Spidersaurs, Cat Girl Without Salad: Amuse-Bouche, and now Shantae and the Seven Sirens – all original games in development at the same time…we haven’t even revealed everything yet! After 30 years, we need a nap!”

What do you think? Are you excited to jump into Shantae and the Seven Sirens next month? What new games are hoping to see from WayForward this year? Feel free to share your thoughts below!
