145% Tariffs Won’t Affect Nintendo Switch 2 Hardware In The US, But It Will Affect A Few Accessories

The US federal government has imposed a 145% tariff on all products manufactured in China as of April 14, 2025, which has caused concern in many industries, including the video game industry.

There has been chatter around the internet suggesting that Nintendo Switch 2 hardware will be impacted by the 145% tariff. Is that true? Let’s find out.

My Nintendo Store US gives us a better picture of the situation

The American My Nintendo Store website lists the country of origin for each product. While it’s true that Nintendo of America has supplied some Nintendo Switch systems, such as the Nintendo Switch OLED Model – Super Mario Bros. Wonder Bundle, from China, that is not the case for Nintendo Switch 2.

In fact, according to the website, the vast majority of Nintendo Switch 2 hardware and accessories for the US market are manufactured in countries outside China. Here is the full list:

  • Nintendo Switch 2 System: Country not listed
  • Nintendo Switch 2 System + Mario Kart World Bundle: Vietnam
  • Joy-Con 2 (L)/(R) Light Blue / Light Red: Vietnam
  • Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller: Cambodia
  • Nintendo Switch 2 Camera: Vietnam
  • Joy-Con 2 Wheel (set of 2): Vietnam
  • Nintendo Switch 2 All-in-One Carrying Case: China
  • Nintendo Switch 2 Carrying Case and Screen Protector: China
  • Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip: China
  • Joy-Con 2 (L) Light Blue: Vietnam
  • Joy-Con 2 (R) Light Red: Country not listed
  • Joy-Con 2 Straps (set of 2) Light Blue / Light Red: Vietnam
  • Nintendo Switch 2 Dock Set: Vietnam
  • Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter: China

While the standalone console does not have a country of origin listed, reports suggest that 70% to 85% of Nintendo Switch 2 units at launch will be made up by the Mario Kart World bundle, which comes from Vietnam. This means that the consoles coming from Vietnam will not be affected by the 145% tariff.

Which accessories will be affected?

At first glance, it seems that the most important accessories, such as the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller and Joy-Con 2, won’t be affected by the tariffs as they are made in Vietnam or Cambodia.

The only ones that will be affected are the carrying case accessories, Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip, and AC adapter, which shouldn’t be a big problem as there will probably be cheaper substitutes from other brands.

Conclusion

Based on the information provided on My Nintendo Store, Nintendo Switch 2 hardware, as well as the vast majority of official accessories, will not be affected by the 145% tariffs as these products are not manufactured in China.

It is also very unlikely for Nintendo to ship products made in China to the US, as it is in their best interest to avoid the tariffs at all cost.
