Bandai Namco Registers Trademarks For The Baten Kaitos Series In Europe

Bandai Namco has registered some new trademarks for the Baten Kaitos series of JRPGs.

Originally launched exclusively for the Gamecube in the 2000s, Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean and its prequel Baten Kaitos Origins were a pair of JRPGs published by Bandai Namco and developed by Monolith Soft and tri-Crescendo. The games were notable for being among the few JRPGs in the Gamecube’s library, and were well-received by critics despite low sales. A third game in the series was reportedly in the works for the DS, but was ultimately cancelled.

Bandai Namco renewing the trademarks after all this time could hint that a comeback is on the way, be it a revival of the cancelled third installment or perhaps remastered ports to a new console. Back in 2018, Monolith Soft artist Yasuyuki Honne reportedly expressed interest in the former, encouraging fans to write in to Bandai Namco if they wanted to see it happen.

Of course, this recent renewal could also just be simple housekeeping on Bandai Namco’s part, and should not be treated as surefire confirmation of a series’ return. We will be sure to report back with more developments as they come.
