Rumor: 2K Games Working On New Line Of LEGO Sports Games

Publisher 2K Games is reportedly teaming up with LEGO to create a new line of sports games based on the ever popular line of building playsets.

This report comes via VGC, who have apparently spoken with sources “with knowledge of its plans” about this new partnership. According to the unnamed source, the first game in this series will be a soccer game developed by Sumo Digital, which is planned to be released this year to coincide with the FIFA World Cup. This will then be followed up with an “open-world LEGO racing game” developed by Visual Concepts, which is planned to launch in 2023. There is also a third game planned on another “major sports franchise”, which remains unknown.

Evidence of this rumor’s legitimacy comes via a job listing at Visual Concepts for an “open world driving game with a major license”, which matches the description of the second game. However, when approached by VGC, 2K, Sumo Digital, and LEGO Group reportedly declined to comment on the rumor, with LEGO Group stating that they “do not comment on speculation about future products or partnerships.”.

According to VGC’s sources, one of the more exciting prospects for these sports games is the possibility of crossover characters from franchises that LEGO has access to, such as “Marvel, Harry Potter and DC”. We will be sure to report back with more details as they come, especially if such a game is announced for Switch.
