Van Gogh Museum Will No Longer Distribute Pikachu Promo Card For Safety Reasons
The Van Gogh Museum has announced they will be not longer distributing the “Pikachu With Grey Felt Hat” TCG Promo card that was created as part of its collaboration with the Pokemon series.
This news comes via the Museum’s official FAQ about the collab, revealing that they will stop distributing the promo card at the venue to allow visitors to experience the event in a “safe and enjoyable manner”. From the wording of the announcement, this move seems to be a result of the crowds of people who rushed into the exhibit to get their hands on the card, which the museum describes as an “undesirable situation”.
The Van Gogh Museum and The Pokémon Company International take the safety and security of visitors and staff very seriously. Recently, a small group of individuals has created an undesirable situation that has led us to take the difficult decision to remove the Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat promo card from the museum. In this way, visitors will be able to experience this special collection of Pokémon paintings and the rest of the museum in a safe and enjoyable manner.
Instead, fans who wish to get their hands on the card will need to go through the Pokemon Center online store, where it will be shipped together with qualifying orders. More details about this can be found here.
Fans shopping at Pokémon Center (United Kingdom, United States and Canada) will soon receive another opportunity to obtain the Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat promo card. Pokémon will give additional updates through its official email and social media channels.
Pokémon will also reintroduce the promo card in participating retailers in the Netherlands early next year. It will not be available via the Van Gogh Museum.
