The Classic Game Boy Is Now 35 Years Old In North America
During this week 35 years ago, one of Nintendo’s most influential devices made its stunning debut in North America.
Indeed, the original Game Boy is now a hefty 35 years old. It made its debut on 31 July 1989, quickly becoming a cultural juggernaut with more than 118 million systems sold across its life time – making it the fourth bestselling videogames in human history currently.

During its massively successful run, the Game Boy would introduce its players to timeless classics such as Pokemon Red/Blue, Super Mario Land, Tetris, and Doctor Mario – amongst other iconic gems such as Metroid II: Return of Samus and The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening.
