In 1995, Nintendo released the Virtual Boy, an innovative new console that was the first to experiment with VR technology. Although ahead of its time, various aspects of the console’s design doomed it to be a commercial failure, mocked as one of gaming’s biggest flops and missteps of all time.

Despite its embarrassing history, Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto has confirmed that the Virtual Boy will have place in the Nintendo Museum. In an interview with IGN Japan, Miyamoto confirmed that visitors will be able to see and try out the Virtual Boy for themselves, with all 20 games emulated using a Nintendo Switch.

“Also, I think that Virtual Boy is a hard thing that is not often seen in the world, but this is also on display. I’m using the Switch to emulate Virtual Boy, so if you take a peek, you can see a three-dimensional image of that time.”

Following this comment, many fans are speculating that perhaps the Virtual Boy library will eventually make its way to the Switch Online service, despite most of them being very awkward and painful to play due to the console’s infamous graphics. Stay tuned for more updates as they come.
