Rumor: Alarmo Hardware Sparks Speculation Of Drift-Free Joy-Cons For Switch 2

Ever since the console’s launch, Switch owners have been dealing with the problem of Joy-Con drift, which has led to a number of lawsuits and calls for Nintendo to address the issue over the course of the console’s life.

Now, some new evidence has surfaced hinting that drift might become a thing of the past with the Switch 2. In a teardown of the recently released Nintendo Alarmo, iFixit discovered that the Alarmo’s dial uses a hall effect sensor, a relatively recent technology that is also used for game controller joysticks.

Many believe that this could be a signal that Nintendo will also be using hall effect sensors for the Switch 2 Joy-cons. hall effect controllers are widely considered to be superior to other controller mechanisms, and most importantly are not susceptible to drift.

Fans have been speculating about whether the Switch 2’s Joy-cons would use hall effect technology for quite some time, and the fact that Nintendo is willing to fork out the cash to use it for the Alarmo of all machines is promising evidence.
