Nintendo And Amazon Deny That Sales Dispute Led To Switch 2 Being Blocked From US Site
Some new claims have surfaced regarding the tumultuous relationship between Nintendo and Amazon US.
For those who are out of the loop, Nintendo products are not always available directly from Amazon in the US. While Third-Party resellers are always present, Nintendo frequently blocks Amazon from selling their hardware and software directly, sometimes for months or years at a time. Even now, Amazon US is only allowed to sell Switch and Switch 2 software directly, and not the Switch 2 console itself.
In a new report from Bloomberg, the publication claimed that this was due to a sales dispute related to the aforementioned third-party resellers. According to their anonymous source, Nintendo pulled their products because they saw third parties selling games for less than the developer’s advertised prices, leading to sellers buying products in bulk from Southeast Asia to be resold in the US.
This source claims further that Amazon attempted to strike a deal with Nintendo to label “authentic” Nintendo products to stem this situation and prevent counterfeiting, but this was ultimately rejected.
Since the publication of this story, both Nintendo and Amazon have released statements denying the claims, which you can view below:
Nintendo: “There is no such fact. We do not disclose details of negotiations or contracts with retailers.”
Amazon: “the claims made by Bloomberg regarding our relationship with Nintendo are inaccurate. Amazon is pleased to offer Nintendo products directly to our customers as part of our commitment to providing an exceptional shopping experience with the widest selection possible.”
Without any official word from either company, it seems the truth of the situation will remain up in the air. Stay tuned for more as it comes.
