Pokemon Card Store In NYC That Was Robbed Forced To Change Its Name By Nintendo

A Pokemon trading card store in New York has been forced to change its name following an armed robbery in January.

The store was originally called “The Poke Court”, and made headlines after a group of armed robbers broke into the store, threatening customers and stealing over $100k in Pokemon TCG products and other items. It seems nobody was seriously harmed in the attack, and the Pokemon community reached out to support the store following the ordeal.

Unfortunately, this media attention also attracted the eyes of Nintendo. In a recent update on the store’s website, the owners mentioned that the store will be rebranding itself as “The Trainer Court” after Nintendo reached out with “concerns” about the store’s original name and logo. As seen in the photo below (via Kotaku), the store originally featuring a prominent Poke Ball in addition to using the word “Poke” in its name, which admittedly skirts the line of legality.

The new logo removes the Poke Ball and instead looks like a stylized “C” for “Court”.

The store itself seems to be taking everything in stride however, and will be working hard to bring its community new events, loyalty programs, and more in 2026. You can check out their site here for more details.
