A New Cosmetic Item in Sword and Shield Expansion Pass Makes An Interesting Reference To Unova
Pokemon Sword and Shield’s Expansion Pass just released the Crown Tundra DLC but it brought an intriguing connection to one of the Pokemon games on the DS. And it comes through Dynamax Adventures.
After completing multiple Dynamax Adventures, players can receive cosmetic items from Peonia, a new character introduced in the Crown Tundra. This includes different eye-wear such as the Futuristic Shades and Futuristic monocle which come in different colors.
But while this cool accessory only now became available for players, it’s actually appeared before in Pokemon Black and White. On none other than the Team Plasma leader, Ghetsis.
In his first iteration, Ghetsis actually wears the red version of this monocle as one of the main antagonists in the Unova region. He later had an outfit change in Black and White 2 with a completely different design to his monocle but that design isn’t present in the available cosmetics.
The three legendary Pokemon that he is seeking to capture are actually available through the Dynamax Adventure cave where Peonia is located. These would be Reshiram, Zekrom, and Kyurem which changes depending on which version of the game you play.
There don’t seem to be any other cosmetics referencing characters from past games so this item and it’s proximity to the Pokemon most associated with the character is intriguing to say the least but there’s not much more than that.
For fun, I tried making a costume based on this monocle using other clothing from different boutiques in the game and this is the closest I got.
What do you think about this accessory? Do you think this may point to an upcoming connection to Unova or is it just an Easter egg? Let us know below.
