Despite Falling Sales Across US Games Market, Nintendo Switch Emerged As Bestselling Hardware In Jan. 2020
Industry analyst Mat Piscatella, who works for the NPD group, has shared some new data about the US game industry’s performance in January 2020.
Overall, hardware sales across the board slowed down significantly – with a 35% dip compared to January 2019. However, NPD’s data showed that the Nintendo Switch and Switch Lite were January 2o2o’s bestselling systems!

In terms of January 2020’s software, sales declined by 31% compared to January 2019. Nintendo sauntered along with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in 7th place. Meanwhile, Ring Fit Adventure climbed up to 9th place – the highest it has ever been on NPD’s figures!
US NPD SW – Dollar sales of tracked video game software fell 31 percent in January compared to a year ago, to $311 million. Declines were driven by the new release slate, as the January 2019 comparable month featured both Kingdom Hearts III and Resident Evil 2.
