Detective Pikachu Becomes Highest-Grossing Videogame Movie Ever In North America
Even while contending with other blockbusters this season, it looks like Detective Pikachu has managed to exceed some records!
According to new data, the movie has now hit $131.645 million in ticket sales within North America. This means it has beaten Lara Croft: Tomb Raider ($131.2 million, adjusted from 2001) and taken the lead as the highest-earning videogame film in the country!
The movie’s worldwide performance was equally healthy, with its total global sales reaching $393.4 million. Right now, the film is still behind Rampage ($428 million in 2018) and Warcraft ($433 million in 2016) – although it could beat Warcraft soon based on unadjusted estimates!
Overall, it looks like Detective Pikachu is a soaring success for its producers at Legendary and The Pokemon Company. Here’s hoping that more Pokemon live-action films are heading our way in the future!
