Game Freak Issues Official Statement Regarding Recent Data Breach

Earlier today, hackers released a huge amount of data from Pokemon developer Game Freak, including sensitive files from past and upcoming Pokemon games, films, and other projects.

Game Freak has now released an official statement addressing the breach. The statement is from CEO Satoshi Tajiri, confirming that the hack occurred back in August 2024, and that there was unauthorized access to personal information from 2,606 past and present employees at Game Freak. The affected parties have been notified where possible, and the company has taken steps to patch the leak and improve security.

Interestingly, the statement does not mention any of the leaked files related to Pokemon projects, implying that these are of lower priority to the company than the safety of its employees. We will be sure to report back with more info should it become available.
