Guide: Here’s How Shiny Pokemon Rates Work In Pokemon Legends Arceus

As with every mainline game since Pokemon Gold & Silver, Pokemon Legends Arceus once again offers players a chance to capture Shiny Pokemon, which sport a rare alternate coloration from regular members of their species.

Like most recent installments, the base Shiny Pokemon rate for Pokemon Legends Arceus is 1 in 4096, which can be dramatically increased by fulfilling certain requirements.

In addition, when a Shiny Pokemon appears, it will be accompanied by a sound and a sparkle making them easier to detect. Furthermore, if the player saves the game before engaging the Pokemon, the Shiny will still be there when they reload, allowing them to try again if they fail to catch it the first time.

Below you will find a list of ways to improve Shiny Pokemon rates in the game, as well as how they interact with each other.

Mass Outbreaks

The first method to improve Shiny odds that players will have access to is Mass Outbreaks, special events which cause members of a specific species of Pokemon to appear in large numbers. During a Mass Outbreak, players will receive an additional 25 shiny checks when spawning, improving the base encounter rate from 1 in 4096, to 26 in 4096.

Pokedex Research Tasks

When the player has raised a Pokemon’s research level to 10, players will receive an additional 1 shiny check for that Pokemon, improving the base shiny encounter rate to 2 in 4096, this can be improved further by maxing out the Pokemon’s research level, which adds an additional 2 checks.

Shiny Charm

When the player has completed the Pokedex by getting all Pokemon’s research levels to 10, they will receive the Shiny Charm. The Shiny Charm adds 3 additional shiny checks to all Pokemon.

Calculation Table

As you might expect, all of the above methods can stack together to greatly raise the chance of encountering a Shiny Pokemon. If the player has the Shiny Charm, has perfected a particular Pokemon’s Pokedex entry, and encounters it during a Mass Outbreak, the Shiny rate will have improved to 1 in 128.49, an incredibly big jump from the base 1 in 4096.
