Scattered across the world in Octopath Traveler II are Job Altars, locations dedicated to the eight jobs and deities which can unlock unique EX Skills for the eight playable characters.

In order to unlock the first EX Skill for each character, players simply have to visit the Job Altar tied to the character’s primary job. For example, to unlock the Hunter Ochette’s first EX Skill, players must have her in the party and visit the Altar of The Huntress. You must bring the associated character to the Altar in order to unlock their EX Skill, so be sure to have the character you need in the party before going looking for their specific Altar.

That said, the eight Job Altars are not that easy to find, and often require players to search for hidden paths along the game’s many areas and routes. One thing players might find helpful is looking out for the Job Altar icon on the minimap, which looks like a set of four columns grouped together.

After finding a Job Altar, it will also be marked on the player’s World Map using the same icon.

For more specifics about where to find each Job Altar, you can find some directions below, be warned as some of these could be considered spoilers for the game:

OCHETTE’S ALTAR LOCATION (ALTAR OF THE HUNTRESS)

• Located in Western Tropu’hopu Traverse
• Walk all the way east until you reach a large patch of sand, just outside of Tropu’hopu, then head south down a small pathway surrounded by red flowers, use the minimap icon as a guide.
• The EX Skill learned here is  Indomitable Beast, an 18 SP move that raises Ochette’s physical attack, evasion, and speed for three turns.

CASTTI’S ALTAR LOCATION (ALTAR OF THE CHARITABLE)

• Located in Northern Conning Creek Coast
• Head east in this area until reaching a big temple entrance, once again, use the minimap icon as a guide if needed.
• The EX Skill learned here is Drastic Measures, an 18 SP move that attacks one enemy with an axe and nullifies their status ailments and debuffs. The more you cancel out, the more powerful the move is.

THRONÉ’S ALTAR LOCATION (ALTAR OF THE PRINCE OF THIEVES)

• Located in Southern Clockbank Highroad
• Once in this area, find a pier so you can get on a boat. Sail south down a hidden opening in the river, using the minimap icon as a guide.
• The EX Skill learned here is Veil of Darkness, a 25 SP move that deals dark damage to all foes and allows her to dodge the next physical attack at a 100% dodge rate.

OSVALD’S ALTAR LOCATION (ALTAR OF THE SCHOLARKING)

• Located in Western Winterbloom Snows.
• Get onto the frozen lake near a bridge, the entrance is hidden underneath the bridge.
• The EX Skill learned here is Teach, a 12 SP move that gives one ally any buffs you have for two turns.

PARTITIO’S ALTAR LOCATION (ALTAR OF THE TRADER)

• Located near the east exit of Southern Crackridge Wilds.
• Head south from the exit until you see some mineshaft entrances, enter the rightmost mineshaft and walk into the rightmost wall. Use the minimap icon as a guide.
• The EX Skill learned here is Negotiate Schedule, a 0 SP move that allows Partitio to pay an enemy to let him act during their turn.

AGNEA’S ALTAR LOCATION (ALTAR OF THE LADY OF GRACE)

• Located to the north of Northern Wellgrove Trail.
• Using the minimap icon as a guide, head to the northmost part of the trail and enter the Altar through a cave governed by forest.
• The EX Skill learned here is Windy Refrain, an 18 SP move that deals wind damage to all foes and allows all your allies to act first on the next turn.

TEMENOS’ ALTAR LOCATION (ALTAR OF THE FLAMEBRINGER)

• Located in the Cleric Guild in Borderfall
• Once in the Guild, head down to the Altar behind the bookcase on the left.
• The EX Skill learned here is Prayer for Plenty, a 20 SP skill that restores a ton of HP to a single ally, allowing for overheal past their max HP.

HIKARI’S ALTAR LOCATION (ALTAR OF THE THUNDERBLADE)

• Found to the south of Eastern Sai Sands.
• Head south in the area until you find a path covered with a broken roofed structure.
• The EX Skill learned here is Ultimate Stance, a 10 SP move that allows your basic attack to hit all foes for three turns.
