Guide: Tips To Complete Pokemon Scarlet/Violet’s Mightiest Mark Salamence Tera Raid

Over the course of this weekend, Pokemon Scarlet And Violet players will be challenging a 7 Star Tera Raid which features a Flying Tera Type Salamence with the Mightiest Mark.

This 7 Star Tera Raid gives out a great deal of useful rewards such as Vitamins, Rare Candies, Ability Patches, and most notably, Herba Mystica. This makes being able to complete the raid consistently extremely useful. Below you will find some quick tips and tricks for beating this Raid Battle, as discovered and shared by members of the Pokemon community.


How To Unlock 7-Star Raids

In order to even participate in this raid battle, players will need to progress far enough in the game to qualify for 7-Star raids. This essentially means meeting the following requirements:

  • Have completed the story and seen the end credits
  • Have completed all Gym Rematches and the Academy Ace Tournament
  • Have completed 10 or more raids rated 4* and above.

Once you have completed these steps, the 7-Star Raid will appear both in your overworld as well as on the Tera Raid board.


Salamence’s Ability and Moves

  • The Tera Raid Salamence has a Flying Tera-Type, meaning that it does more damage with its Dragon-Type, and Flying-Type moves.
  • As a Flying Tera-Type, it is weak to Electric, Ice and Rock type attacks.
  • Salamence’s Ability is Moxie, which raises its attack every time it K O’s an opponent.
  • Salamence’s notable moves include the following:
    • Tera Blast ~ An attack that changes type depending on the user’s Tera Type. It is a Flying-Type attack in this battle.
    • Dragon Pulse ~ Dragon-Type attack that hits one opponent.
    • Earthquake ~ Ground-Type attack that his all opponents.
    • Flamethrower ~ Fire-Type attack that hits one opponent.
    • Heat Wave ~ Fire-Type attack that hits all opponents.
    • Breaking Swipe ~ Dragon-Type attack that has a chance to lower the opponent’s Attack stat.
    • Dragon Dance ~ Status move that boosts the user’s Attack, Special Attack, and Speed stats.
  • Salamence’s Battle Behaviour
    • Start ~ Uses Heat Wave
    • 86% Time ~ Player Status and Stats Reset
    • 85% HP / 85% Time ~ Tera Energy Shield
    • 50% Time ~ Breaking Swipe
    • 44% HP ~ Salamence Stats and Status Reset
    • 40% HP ~ Uses Dragon Dance

General Recommendations

  • Avoid using Pokemon with a weakness to Flying, Dragon, Ground, and Fire moves. Fainting in battle reduces the timer, and if it reaches zero before the raid boss is defeated, everyone will fail the raid battle.
  • Use Level 100 Pokemon to maximize your chance of successfully completing the raid.
  • Use Vitamins to maximize your Pokemon’s key stats to increase your chance of successfully completing the Raid.
  • Use Cheers when necessary
    • Go For It! ~ Boosts Attacking stats.
    • Hang Tough! ~ Boosts Defensive stats.
    • Heal Up! ~ Heals HP and cures Status conditions.

Recommended Pokemon

Elektross

  • Electric typing makes it resistant to most of Salamence’s moves.
  • Ability Levitate makes it immune to Salamence’s Earthquake.
  • Recommended Tera-Type: Electric
  • Recommended Stat Spread
    • Modest Nature to raise Sp.Atk
    • Max out Sp.Atk with Calcium
    • Max out HP with HPUp
  • Recommended Moves:
    • Gastro Acid ~ Disables the effects of the opponent’s Ability.
    • Acid Spray ~ Poison-Type attack that does damage while also reducing the opponent’s Sp.Defense
    • Discharge ~ Electric-Type attack that damages all other Pokemon.
  • Recommended Items:
    • Shell Bell ~ Recovers HP when attacking.
  • Strategy (Main Attacker)
    • Use Gastro Acid immediately to disable Salamence’s ability for the entire battle.
    • Use Acid Spray three times to reduce Salamence’s Sp.Defense.
    • Once the Tera Orb is charged, ensure your Elektross is at near full HP before Terastalizing to a to am Electric-Type, then use Discharge repeatedly until Salamence faints. Switch to Acid Spray when Salamence resets its own stat changes.

Bellibolt

  • Electric typing makes resistant to most of Salamence’s attacks.
  • Ability Electromorphosis boosts the power of its Electric-Type moves after being hit.
  • Recommended Stat Spread
    • Modest Nature to raise Sp.Atk
    • Max out Sp.Atk with Calcium
    • Max out HP with HPUp
  • Recommended Moves:
    • Parabolic Charge ~ Electric-Type attack which also recovers Bellibolt’s HP.
    • Acid Spray ~ Poison-Type attack that does damage while also reducing the opponent’s Sp.Defense
    • Chilling Water ~ Water-Type attack that does damage while also reducing the opponent’s Attack.
    • Electric Terrain ~ Sets us Electric Terrain, which boosts the power of Electric-Type attacks.
  • Recommended Items:
    • Shell Bell ~ Recovers HP when attacking.
  • Strategy (All Rounder)
    • Use Chilling Water to reduce Salamence’s attack stat.
    • Use Acid Spray to reduce Salamence’s Sp.Defense if there are no other Acid Spray users on the team.
    • Once your Tera Orb is charged, Terastalize into an Electric-Type and use Parabolic Charge until Salamence faints.

Slowbro

  • Water/Psychic typing makes it resistant to most of Salamence’s attacks.
  • Ability Oblivious has no relevant effect in this battle, but is essential for the Skill Swap strategy.
  • Recommended Stat Spread
    • Modest Nature.
    • Max out Sp.Atk stat with Calcium
    • Max out HP stat with HPUp
  • Recommended Moves:
    • Stored Power ~ Psychic-Type special attack that does more damage based on the amount of stat boosts the user has accumulated.
    • Calm Mind ~ Status move that boosts the user’s Sp.Attack and Sp.Defense stat.
    • Skill Swap ~ Status move that exchanges abilities with the opponent.
    • Chilling Water ~ Water-Type special attack that does damage and reduces opponent’s Attack stat.
  • Recommended Items:
    • Shell Bell ~ Heals HP after dealing damage.
  • Strategy (Main Attacker)
    • Use Skill Swap to exchange abilities with Salamence, removing the attack boosts it can get from Moxie.
    • User Chilling Water to lower Salamence’s Attack stat and charge your Tera Orb.
    • After Salamence clears your stat buffs, start using Calm Mind to boost your Sp.Attack, Sp.Defense, and the power of Stored Power.
    • After you have used Calm Mind 4 to 5 times, Terastalize into a Psychic Type and use Stored Power to lower Salamence’s HP.

Alcremie

  • Fairy typing makes resistant to most of Salamence’s attacks.
  • Ability Sweet Veil has no relevant effect in this battle, but is essential for the Entrainment strategy.
  • Recommended Stat Spread
    • Impish Nature
    • Max out HP stat with HPUp
    • Max out Def with Iron
  • Recommended Moves:
    • Entrainment ~ Changes the opponent’s ability to match the user’s.
    • Decorate ~ Sharply boosts the attacking stats of an ally Pokemon.
    • Charm ~ Status move that reduces the opponent’s Attack stat.
    • Helping Hand ~ Boosts the damage of your ally Pokemon’s next attack.
  • Recommended Items:
    • Leftovers ~ Heals some HP every turn.
  • Strategy (Support)
    • Use Entrainment to get rid of Salamence’s Moxie ability.
    • Use Decorate on your ally’s Pokemon (e.g. Slowbro) to boost their damage output.
    • Before Salamence sets up its Tera Shield, use Charm to reduce its Attack stat so your allies can survive better.
