Lord Of The Rings: Gollum Dev Studio Shut Down, Daedelic Entertainment Shifts Focus To Publishing

Earlier this year, Lord Of The Rings: Gollum was released on PC, Xbox, and Playstation, with plans to release on Switch later this year. However, the game went on to be infamously poorly received, being criticized and ridiculed for everything from its story, gameplay, graphics, and poor quality control.

Following the game’s abysmal reception, Daedelic Entertainment has reportedly announced they will be shutting down its development studio and focusing on publishing games instead. This has resulted in 25 of its employees being let go, and the cancellation of all of its future Lord Of The Rings projects. In an email sent to Kotaku, a representative from Daedalic had this to say about the decision:

“Even though The Lord of the Rings: Gollum did not live up to the expectations we had for the game, we are very grateful for the opportunity and the learning experience it brought us. [It’s] a difficult break, but also a new beginning in the already long history of Daedalic Entertainment. We value each and every member of our team very much and it is important to us that the transition goes as well as possible. We will therefore support our former employees in finding new opportunities within our network.”

At the time of this writing, it is not known how this will affect to planned Switch version of the game, although it would not be surprising if it has been cancelled. Stay tuned for more updates as they come.
