Mario Kart World has set a new sales record for the franchise in Japan.

According to the latest sales data (Via Pierre485), Mario Kart World has crossed over 2.5 million copies sold in Japan. It achieved this milestone in just 29 weeks, making it the new fastest selling Mario Kart game in the country, smashing the previous record h older Mario Kart Wii, which took 89 weeks to reach the same heights. This also makes Mario Kart World the fastest selling Switch 2 game, and the best-selling game of 2025 period for Japan.

The big caveat to this is that these figures include sales for the Mario Kart World Switch 2 bundle. As of September 2025, an estimated 84% of Mario Kart World sales were from the bundle, meaning that this milestone was likely not achieved due to sales of the game alone, but boosted by players who were primarily looking to pick up a Switch 2.
