During last week’s financial briefing, one investor asked the directors of Nintendo how Nintendo Switch’s unique controllers, Joy-Con, came about from a design and development perspective.

Shigeru Miyamoto said many developers provided their feedback to Nintendo on how to improve the Wii Remote, such as making it small enough to attach to a leg and adding more features. Nintendo’s hardware team started thinking constructively on miniaturizing the game controller and packing in more technology, thus leading to the development of the Joy-Con and Nintendo Switch.
