Amidst heavy speculation surrounding their upcoming Switch successor, Nintendo has filed a patent for a new wireless device in the US.

The patent was submitted to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), with the model number “CLO-001”. Based on Nintendo’s naming conventions, many believe that this is a brand new device not tied into any previous Nintendo products.

The device described in the patent is one that only works when plugged in, using a USB-C cable as well as a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi radio and a 24GHz mmWave sensor. A 24GHz mmWave sensor is usually used to track movement, however there is no body-worn accessory involved in the device’s usage.

Due to the vagueness of the specifications, fans are completely in the dark as to what this device could be used for. Since it uses USB-C, some believe it could be plugged into the Switch successor to enable some functionality, due to leaked specifications showing it has two separate USB-C ports.

That said, as with many of Nintendo’s patents, its possible that this device may never be made into a real product down the line. Stay tuned for more updates as they come.
