Nintendo Reportedly Seeking New Targets For Switch Piracy Investigations

For the past few months, Nintendo has been clamping down even harder on Switch piracy, filing takedowns against major emulators and going after individuals accused of enabling pirated software.

According to a report from Stephen Totilo of Game File, Nintendo is continuing its crusade against Switch piracy by targeting the SwitchPirates subreddit. In its court filing against Switch modder James “Archbox” Williams, Nintendo says that their investigations have given them “new targets”, including the SwitchPirates subreddit which hosts around 200,000 members.

“Nintendo has reason to believe that other accounts active in the SwitchPirates community may also have been controlled by Defendant, or else reflect other individuals who have worked alongside Defendant.”

The filing goes on to state that Nintendo is seeking permission to subpeona Reddit and other tech companies to find Williams’ associates and take further legal action against them for infringement.

Nintendo has managed to successfully subpeona online entities before in their pursuit of leaks and piracy, so it seems likely that we will be seeing even more court cases popping up in the near future. Stay tuned for more as it comes.
