Last year, US President Donald Trump enacted sweeping tariffs against numerous countries worldwide, delaying pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 and widely believed to be the cause of the higher price point of the console and its accessories.

Recently, the tariffs were rule to be illegal by the US Supreme Court, and this has spurred lawsuits against the government by many companies seeking compensation for the losses they took. Unsurprisingly, it seems that Nintendo is one of these companies.

According to legal documents shared by Aftermath, Nintendo’s lawyers cite the order “imposing tariffs on imports from a vast swath of countries” as “unlawful” and are demanding compensation. This takes the form of a refund on the tariffs they paid “with interest”, which they are eligible for because Nintendo of America is an “importer of record for goods that were subject to IEEPA Duties”.

In a statement issued to Aftermath, Nintendo of America confirmed that they filed the complaint, but have “nothing else to share on this topic.”.
